Seventy First International Golf Championship of the Shoe, Leather and Allied Trades
June 22nd, 2016 - June 24th, 2016
The Seventy First International Golf Championship of the Shoe, Leather and Allied Trades was held at the National Golf Centre at Woodhall Spa in Lincolnshire, the home of English Golf, over three days at the end of June. In beautiful weather conditions nearly 100 golfers competed for the trophies on offer and on the Thursday evening an informal banquet followed by the Prize Draw and Auction was held at the Petwood Hotel which was famous in World War II as the officers mess for the Dambusters Squadron. Over many years the Championship have been fantastic supporters of Footwear Friends and LHTBI, the leather industry charity, and it was a privilege to attend the event on behalf of Footwear Friends and meet with the sponsors, players and all the loyal volunteers led by Chairman Ian Ferris, Secretary “extra-ordinaire” Rodney Gibson and Treasurer Michael Jones who give up their time and energy to make this event possible. This event has been held continuously since 1946 during which time nearly £500,000 has been donated to charity. Next year the Championship will be held at the Forest of Arden Resort in Warwickshire on June 14th, 15th and 16th and anyone interested in participating should contact Rodney Gibson by email.
